I believe we're all doing the best we can with what we know in the moment. When we face trauma or hardship, the brain does a brilliant job of adapting to keep us safe, and it adopts whatever beliefs and behaviours are necessary to get us through. If you're reading this, it's likely that you've noticed some of your own beliefs and behaviours holding you back from the life you really want to live. You are far from alone in this. Often, the beliefs and behaviours that keep us safe and functioning at one point in our lives stop being helpful, and may even start wreaking havoc on our ability to be the person we really want to be.
I’m passionate about walking alongside you in your search for meaning and change. I look forward to hearing your story, and compassionately supporting you to understand the patterns that have you feeling stuck. Together, we can uncover how your experiences have shaped how you show up in the world today, process the things that have happened to you, explore your current emotions and relationships, and navigate towards a life that feels fulfilling.
I aim to provide a warm, safe, and comfortable environment for connection, self-exploration, and sharing of your authentic self. I strive to meet you where you’re at, fostering a therapeutic relationship of collaboration and acceptance. I adopt anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, strengths-based, and client-centred approaches in my work.
I specialize in working 1-1 with adults who are wanting to heal from trauma, explore difficult relationships, shed light on the patterns that are no longer serving them, and cope with anxiety.
Acknowledging that each individual has unique strengths and needs they bring to therapy, I utilize an eclectic approach, drawing on various modalities such as: Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).
I currently live in Guelph, and am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, Canadian Association of Social Workers, EMDR Canada, and EMDR International Association.
Outside of the therapy room, I spend a lot of time with my puppy, Levi, an adorable (and energetic) retriever mix. My favourite ways of taking care of myself are to spend some quiet time reading a fiction novel, or moving my body on a hike or in a yoga class. I also enjoy practicing creativity by knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
