Break Free From Relationship Patterns That Keep You Stuck

You keep ending up in the same painful cycles: people-pleasing, shutting down, or choosing partners who can't meet your needs. Therapy can help you understand why and build the secure, fulfilling connections you deserve.

In-person in Guelph or virtual across Ontario.

Start here - A free 20-min consult

Does this sound familiar?

᯽ Repeating the same painful relationship patterns over and over

᯽ Walking on eggshells around the people closest to you

᯽ Losing yourself in relationships and putting everyone else's needs first
᯽ Drawn to emotionally unavailable or unpredictable partners

᯽ Overwhelmed by jealousy, insecurity, or fear of abandonment

᯽Like you don't know what a healthy relationship even looks like

3 - Start Healing

Begin your journey toward feeling more like yourself, entirely at your own pace.

Why Your Relationships Feel So Hard

The way you connect with others was shaped long before you had any say in it. Your earliest relationships (with parents, caregivers, or family) taught your nervous system what to expect from love. If those relationships were inconsistent, critical, or emotionally unavailable, you learned to adapt in ways that made sense at the time.

While childhood provides the groundwork, sometimes it's a romantic relationship - a toxic partnership, a painful betrayal, or years of walking on eggshells - that rewires your nervous system. Past relationships can teach you to protect yourself in ways that feel necessary but keep you stuck long after you've decided to move on.

Maybe you learned to people-please to keep the peace. Maybe you shut down emotionally to protect yourself. Or maybe you cling tightly because deep down, you're terrified of being left. These aren't flaws, they're attachment patterns your brain developed to survive.

The good news is that attachment patterns can change. With the right therapeutic support, you can understand your relational wiring, heal old wounds, and start showing up in relationships as the person you actually want to be.

Imagine What Life Could Look Like

✓ You stop repeating the same painful relationship cycles

✓ Arguments and conflict feel less threatening

✓ You feel secure in yourself, with or without a partner

✓ You set boundaries without guilt or fear

✓ You choose partners who are actually available and safe

✓ You experience deeper, more authentic connection with the people who matter

Let's Do This Thing

Megan Gauthier, MSW RSW

As a Guelph-based therapist, I specialize in helping people understand and change the relationship patterns that keep them feeling stuck, disconnected, or on edge. I see how these patterns connect to what you learned growing up about love, closeness, and what you’re allowed to need.

My approach is warm, direct, and grounded in what actually creates change. We won’t just talk about your relationships, we’ll work with the parts of you that show up in them using IFS and EFT. The part that panics, the part that pulls away, the part that keeps hoping for something different.

Clients often tell me this is the first time something has actually clicked - not just intellectually, but in their body. Like they finally understand why they react the way they do, and more importantly, they know how to do something different.

Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. Attachment and relationship patterns show up everywhere - in friendships, family dynamics, at work, and in your relationship with yourself. You don't need to be in a romantic relationship to do this work.

It's not random. Your nervous system is drawn to what feels familiar. even if familiar means painful. Therapy helps you understand this pattern and start choosing differently, from a place of awareness rather than autopilot.

Yes! I offer both in-person sessions in Guelph and virtual sessions across Ontario.

No, this is individual therapy focused on your relationship patterns and attachment style. That said, the work you do here will directly impact how you show up in all your relationships.

That depends on your goals and history. Some clients notice meaningful shifts within a few months, while others choose to go deeper over a longer period. We'll move at your pace.
